I am a little confused on if you want me to talk about me reflecting on the quarter are the current project were on but to be safe and what I'm more comfortable with ill just write about a quarter reflection. This quarter in class we have been more focused on Adobe Illustrator. I have progressed a ton since day 1 of using Illustrator to now. The first week of using Illustrator I felt it a little boring since I really had gotten a grasp on photoshop and wanted to keep created and playing in photoshop. After a couple of assignments and using a more wide variety of tools Illustrator has become extremely fun to me and brings more enjoyment in coming to class and creating your own things that you have worked on. The pen tool assignment or portrait assignment was a little difficult not just at the start but mostly the whole project. What made that assignment so difficult was the fact that I had to use the pen tool for the whole thing and that as I was doing the assignment I had to learn more aspects on how to use the Pen tool. But by far my favorite assignment that I've finished this quarter has been the Movie Poster assignment where I recreated a poster design of Star Wars the return of the Jedi with using Illustrator. In that project I had to use all my skills! and had to become very creative since I was doing everything from scratch. Overall this quarter in DDA has been very fun and I cant wait to go more in depth with Animation. Summary
Traditional Animation is a technique where each individual frame is drawn by hand on paper and captured on camera of each frame (picture) moving very quickly to make an animation in a scene. Movement of these pictures usually run up to twelve frames per second which is incredible to think about, 12 sheets of paper moving per second to create an animation. Traditional Animation had a lot to go through than just the drawing. Timing of the frames has to be on point to match the voice recording with the animations to not confuse the audience. But if you didn't want to go through all that complicated work and proficient timing, animation producers and directors could just have the text on the frames written instead of by voice. Animations are what they were called by Disney back then. "Animatics" had to go through a series of test and layouts before it could become a final product for the public to view. Background artists will usually start working when the animation is almost done. They have to repaint the sets with either water colors or oil paint. Once everything is completed, the work that has been done goes through a stage called ink-paint and camera where everything on paper is transferred to a thin clear sheet called a cel. The outline of the drawing is photocopied to the cel. Then the cels are photographed and pretty much done and ready for film. I chose this technique because its no longer used anymore today due to computer animation taking over. I wanted to see how animation started and what tools were available and being used.
