This is my Blog post page. Down below I have all my created and finished blogs about things related to DDA.
My favorite Idle Animation that you gave from the website was the Aladdin game where he was just standing there juggling one apple even if there were no more apples left in the inventory. What pops out to me about this animation is that it shows the casual personality of the character and that I like because it fits it well with the scene. The creators made this animation appear natural because of the importance of the apples and there details within the game. Since the animation occurs every time when your person is not moving, I wonder if that means in any setting that will happen or animation just activates when you are in that particular scene. I also wonder if this loop of animation was the only one or one of few in the game since this game is from the early 90s. One more animation that stood out to me was the Ryu guy from Street Fighter 3 because I have seen the little boxing stance/pre warm up so many times in fighting games. I wish there was more varieties of poses because the same animation time and time again gets real boring, but I guess you can let it pass since it was the 90s and the animation would only activate when you let your character stand still for a long time. One thing that was a little weird to me about this animation was the shadows didn't move when the character moved so that really showed its age. All the details on the character didn't move like glare, hair, or as I said shadows. I am a little confused on if you want me to talk about me reflecting on the quarter are the current project were on but to be safe and what I'm more comfortable with ill just write about a quarter reflection. This quarter in class we have been more focused on Adobe Illustrator. I have progressed a ton since day 1 of using Illustrator to now. The first week of using Illustrator I felt it a little boring since I really had gotten a grasp on photoshop and wanted to keep created and playing in photoshop. After a couple of assignments and using a more wide variety of tools Illustrator has become extremely fun to me and brings more enjoyment in coming to class and creating your own things that you have worked on. The pen tool assignment or portrait assignment was a little difficult not just at the start but mostly the whole project. What made that assignment so difficult was the fact that I had to use the pen tool for the whole thing and that as I was doing the assignment I had to learn more aspects on how to use the Pen tool. But by far my favorite assignment that I've finished this quarter has been the Movie Poster assignment where I recreated a poster design of Star Wars the return of the Jedi with using Illustrator. In that project I had to use all my skills! and had to become very creative since I was doing everything from scratch. Overall this quarter in DDA has been very fun and I cant wait to go more in depth with Animation. Summary
Traditional Animation is a technique where each individual frame is drawn by hand on paper and captured on camera of each frame (picture) moving very quickly to make an animation in a scene. Movement of these pictures usually run up to twelve frames per second which is incredible to think about, 12 sheets of paper moving per second to create an animation. Traditional Animation had a lot to go through than just the drawing. Timing of the frames has to be on point to match the voice recording with the animations to not confuse the audience. But if you didn't want to go through all that complicated work and proficient timing, animation producers and directors could just have the text on the frames written instead of by voice. Animations are what they were called by Disney back then. "Animatics" had to go through a series of test and layouts before it could become a final product for the public to view. Background artists will usually start working when the animation is almost done. They have to repaint the sets with either water colors or oil paint. Once everything is completed, the work that has been done goes through a stage called ink-paint and camera where everything on paper is transferred to a thin clear sheet called a cel. The outline of the drawing is photocopied to the cel. Then the cels are photographed and pretty much done and ready for film. I chose this technique because its no longer used anymore today due to computer animation taking over. I wanted to see how animation started and what tools were available and being used. So far my Photoshop experience has carried over to Illustrator because after all they are both made by Adobe and both have some of the same tools. All the way up to the most recent assignment, things have been going great and work has been completed on time. I guess with the Cheeseburger assignment its been hard for me to turn in because of the need to having to know how to use the Pen tool and Mesh tool. But the Cheeseburger assignment has most definitely been different for me because of all the different and new tools I had to use and learn throughout the assignment. In Illustrator, I've really had fun with the Shape Builder tool and putting shapes together to create new ones. That is something that has gotten me more intrigued into learning more about Illustrator and just the cartoony look keeps reminding me of South Park and this YouTube channel that both look like they use same type of Illustrator. One thing I could see myself most definitely using Illustrator for in creating artwork in the game development cycle is creating characters and making cartoon game scenes. I still see myself wanting to learn more about Illustrator. I say this because of all the undiscovered tools that I have yet to learn and I'm only three assignments deep into Illustrator. Just like Photoshop, after each and every assignment I started learning more stuff and creating new things in my free time since I had gotten a grasp on what to do and how to do things. I feel like If I learn the Pen tool all the way, it could change a lot on how I do future Illustrator artwork. This picture from the video game Total War Rome 2 uses a lot of elements and principles of design if you look at the details and look very closely. For instance you can see the rhythm of texture because all the game characters are wearing a similar type of armor even the horses are wearing similar armor as well. You can also say that the picture involves some scale in it if you compare the soldiers with the city in the background. The last real notable element of design that I could see was color, this photo has a little variety off color not the most outstanding and different colors but its there too notice. I could find more principles of design such as repetition because there's multiple characters of the same models. Also I found alignment because it looks like all the soldiers are in rows. This is another picture from the same game Total War Rome 2.In this picture I couldn't point out a lot of elements of design but I found this picture has more vibrant colors then the last photo with different color schemes. This photo also uses a little bit of texture with two types of people wearing different clothes the Romans and the Barbarians. Know too Principles of design I found repetition because there's fighting everywhere. Also I found the use of emphasis because the two characters in the front the Barbarian (standing)and the Roman (on ground) is what the viewer looks at first and is the most stand out thing. This specific mod for Mount and Blade Warband is reflective on the American Civil War. So all the colors dealing with the background are very wilderness and green like battlefields and the town scenes are very dirt road brown with grey dull buildings .The main colors that I see throughout playing this game that stounds out to me the most are the uniforms on npc and your personal character. If your playing as the union you are just going to see blue and gold colors on there uniforms and if you are playing as the confederates you are just seeing grey and gold. I suppose the game creators chose these colors to have historical accuracy and make the player have a more civil war experience and make the player feel how the game is supposed to be .The mood and feel you get from these colors is different from most games because the game is trying to simulate a one hundred fifty year old setting which is different from how it is today color wise this game has very dull and basic colors while a Call of Duty are a Battlefield will have very vibrant modern colors .The use of these dull colors most defiantly add on to historical accuracy for the player to feel as if this was how it was supposed to be in the American Civil War. Photoshop can generally be used in positive ways but also has its flaws. Photoshop can change the appearance on everyday things such as buildings ,people ,living things, world events so in that case u never know what you see online is real or fake. *Pros |
